Album Cover Redesign
I was inspired to design cover art for some of my favorite musical albums, beginning with Silo by The Altogether. I’m aiming to evoke the nostalgia and tension in the album’s lyrics, with a visual style influenced by the American Arts and Crafts Movement and cut paper art for a homey feeling.
I continued building on this style with Footnotes for the Spring by Eliza Rickman. I’m exploring layering and texture using geometric building blocks to create more complex shapes.

Next I moved to Illustrator to create the title lettering based on my sketches and work on the layout. This went through several iterations as I experimented with composition, style, and details.

I moved to Illustrator to find type treatments for the title, create illustrations, and work on layout.
I used geometric shapes to create the falling bird, and also experimented with warping the shape to achieve a more fluid form.
Reevaluation
At this point in my process, I came up against a wall– I wasn’t satisfied with the forms or the layouts I was working with. So I returned to my thumbnail sketches and began working in a different direction.
Because Rickman uses birds as a central metaphor throughout many songs on this album, I felt it was important to retain the bird motif going into a new design. For this, I learned a new method of adding grain texture and shading to shapes in Illustrator, and created a herringbone pattern for the background to evoke a tactile wool feel.
